PURPOSE: A tire pressure monitoring system and a control method thereof are provided to cope with accidents with expecting motions of the preceding vehicle by informing drivers and following vehicles of the lack of pneumatic pressure of tires. CONSTITUTION: A tire pressure monitoring system is composed of a tire pressure sensor(20) for measuring pneumatic pressure of tires; a room display unit(140) mounted in a vehicle room to warn a driver of the lack of tire pressure; a rear warning lamp(170) installed in the rear part of a vehicle to warn a following vehicle of the lack of tire pressure; and a control unit(110) for judging a present state of the tire by comparing information input from the tire pressure sensor with pre-set reference pneumatic pressure and warning the lack of tire pressure through the room display unit and the rear warning lamp.
