PURPOSE: A device for controlling the speed of a scanning motor is provided to control the speed of revolution of the scanning motor using a light sensor irrespective of a variation in the polarity of a magnet. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling the speed of a scanning motor(200) includes a circuit board(213), a stator fixed to the circuit board, a rotation axis(232) vertically disposed on the stator, a rotor into which the rotation axis is inserted, and an axis holder for holding the rotation axis. The rotor is rotated at a predetermined speed according to a mutual magnetization action of the stator and rotor. The device further includes a polygon mirror(240) rotated together with the rotor, at least one light pattern(235) formed on one side of the outer face of the rotor, and a light sensor for sensing the light pattern.
