PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION CONTAINING EMODIN FROM RUMEX ACETOSA L WHICH INHIBITS MUTATION AND ALLEVIATES TOXICITY OF THE CONVENTIONAL ANTICANCER AGENT FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CANCER AND PREPARATION METHOD OF THE SAME EMODIN

PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing emodin from Rumex acetosa L and a preparation method of the emodin are provided, which composition is useful for both prevention and treatment of cancer because the emodin inhibits mutation, and alleviates toxicity of the conventional anticancer agent such as taxol without decrease of its anticancer activity when it is co-used with the conventional anticancer agent. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition contains emodin from Rumex acetosa L represented by formula (1) as an effective component, wherein the pharmaceutical composition is useful for prevention and treatment of cancer, in particular ovarian cancer, central neurologic cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer and melanoma; and the pharmaceutical composition inhibits mutation. The method for preparing the emodin from Rumex acetosa L comprises the steps of: (a) drying Rumex acetosa L in the shade and pulverizing the dried Rumex acetosa L; (b) adding a mixture of methanol and water into the pulverized Rumex acetosa L, and heating the mixture to obtain the water extract of Rumex acetosa L; (c) adding water and hexane into the water extract of Rumex acetosa L and stirring them to separate a water-soluble layer; (d) adding methylene chloride into the water-soluble layer and stirring them to separate a methylene chloride layer; (e) concentrating the methylene chloride layer under reduced pressure to remove methylene chloride and drying the methylene chloride concentrate to prepare a methylene chloride fraction; and (f) subjecting the methylene chloride fraction to silica gel chromatography using a mixture of methylene chloride and methanol as an eluting solvent.
