MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF POLYVINYL ALCOHOL-BASED COPOLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for manufacturing a polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer consisting of a vinyl alcohol unit and a cationic group-containing monomer unit in an improved yield. SOLUTION: The process for manufacturing a polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer comprises hydrolysing the protected group of the copolymer which consists of a vinyl alcohol unit and a protected cationic group-containing monomer unit and contains the hydrolysate of a vinylcarboxylic ester as an impurity in the presence of an ammonia derivative. The process for manufacturing a polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer comprises hydrolysing the vinylcarboxylic ester unit of the copolymer which consists of a vinyl alcohol unit and a cationic group-containing monomer unit and contains the vinylcarboxylic ester as an impurity in the presence of an ammonia derivative.
