PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a space between conveyed letters is reduced because the conveying speed of letters overlapped by an overlap conveying means is different from that of single letters in a conventional letter dividing device. SOLUTION: All endless belts of conveying means in the subsequent stage of the overlap conveying means are set to be driven by driving pulleys. As another means, all the endless belts of conveying means in the subsequent stage of the overlap conveying means are set to be driven by the driving pulleys, and the winding angle of a driving belt to another pulley fixedly held to the other end of a shaft to which the driving pulley for driving the endless belt serving as the conveying means is fixedly held, is made an equal angle.
