PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator or a moving sidewalk for realizing a driving device capable of avoiding defects of a conventional device and driving a step of a step belt and a plate of a plate belt by simple manner and method. SOLUTION: Running rails 10 are arranged in a lateral direction means 9 of a support structural body, and each of them has each running surface 10.1 for a step roller 11 and a running surface 10.2 for a chain roller. The step roller 11 is connected with a step main body 13 by an arm 12. A second part 14.2 of a linear motor 14 is connected with the step main body 13 by a step pin 15. A guide rail 16 functioning to guide and drive the step 3 is provided at the center of a beam 9 along an advance running part or a return running part of the escalator. A first part 14.1 of the linear motor 14 is integrated with the guide rail 16. Each motor step 3 is provided with a brake 17 functioning for the guide rail 16. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
