PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide specific human SP-18 and SP-5 derived proteins relating to alveolar surfactant proteins (ASP) in general useful for treating specific respiratory diseases. SOLUTION: The proteins are purified polypeptides having an ASP activity and a sequence shown below, or its pharmaceutically permissible salt or amide: X-AA<SB>28</SB>-AA<SB>29</SB>-AA<SB>30</SB>-AA<SB>31</SB>-AA<SB>32</SB>-AA<SB>33</SB>-AA<SB>34</SB>-AA<SB>35</SB>-Leu-Leu-Ile-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Leu-Ile-Z-Z-Z-Ile-Z-Gly-Ala-Leu-Leu-Met-Y. Some of these proteins, being analogs of encoded sequences, exhibit remarkably decreased aggregation in comparison with natural proteins, i.e., the aggregation caused by intramolecular and intermolecular interactions, mainly due to disulfides of covalent bonds, decreases.
