PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition having extremely superior controlling effects on various kinds of pests. SOLUTION: This pest-controlling composition contains a nicotinic acid amide compound represented by formula (I) [wherein, R is a 1-6C alkyl group which may be substituted with a halogen atom; R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen atom, a 1-6C alkyl group which may be substituted, a 2-6C alkenyl group or an acyl group; X is C-R<SP>2</SP>or nitrogen atom; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a 1-6C alkyl group which may be substituted, a 3-7C cycloalkyl group, a 2-6C alkenyl group, a 3-7C cycloalkenyl group, formyl group, a group represented by the formula: CH=NOR<SP>4</SP>, cyano group, a phenyl group which may be substituted, a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group which may be substituted or a phenoxy group which may be substituted], and a compound having insecticidal, acaricidal or nematocidal activities as active ingredients.
