PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a variation in the amount of a flow passing a check valve in opening the check valve. SOLUTION: A drive piston and an intermediate piston are slidably stored in a drive piston storage hole and an intermediate piston storage hole extending in the longitudinal direction of a fuel injection valve in a housing. A hydraulic chamber is defined by the bottom surface of the drive piston, the top surface of the intermediate piston, and the inner wall surfaces of the drive piston storage hole and the intermediate piston storage hole, and filled up with a fuel. A fuel supplementing passage 30 for supplementing the fuel into the hydraulic chamber is formed in the drive piston 16 and connected to the hydraulic chamber. A check valve 31 allowing the fuel to flow only to the hydraulic chamber is disposed in the fuel supplementing passage 30. A spring 37 is disposed so that the load center axis L-L of the spring 37 is positioned on one side A of the center axis J-J of an annular seal 38 formed between the valve element 33 and the valve seat 34 of the check valve in closing the check valve 31.
