PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sterilization apparatus for water capable of prolonging the service life of copper and silver electrodes, and having bactericidal, fungicidal and algaecidal effects. SOLUTION: The sterilization apparatus controls proliferation of bacteria, fungus and algae in the water by gradually releasing metal ions in the water by applying voltage to a pair of electrodes. The apparatus, on an anode side of the pair of electrodes, is provided with a metal electrode having a bactericidal, fungicidal or algaecidal effect, and a variable resistor connected to the metal electrode in series. The apparatus detects the number of bacteria, fungus and algae, and modifies a resistance value of the variable resistor according to the detection result. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
