PROCESS FOR PRODUCING AROMATIC POLYCARBONATE

A method for handling the by-product phenol yielded in a PC production step. In the method, the water content of the by-product phenol is regulated to a value in a given range. Thus, production efficiencies in the BPA production step and DPC production step to which the by-product phenol is to be sent are maintained and hence a PC production efficiency in the whole process is maintained. The process for producing an aromatic polycarbonate comprises a diphenyl carbonate production step, a bisphenol A production step, and an aromatic polycarbonate production step, and is characterized in that the amount of water contained in the by-product phenol recovered in the aromatic polycarbonate production step is regulated to 0.2 wt.% or less and the by-product phenol thus regulated is used as a raw material for the diphenyl carbonate production step and/or the bisphenol A production step.
