<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration wave linear motor in which the size can be reduced through a simple arrangement. <P>SOLUTION: The vibration wave linear motor 46 is provided with a coupling drive contact section 93 integrating a plate part 92 and a drive contact part 76, respectively, above and below a vibrator body 75. Upper and lower guide shafts 77 (77-1, 77-2) touching the recesses 76a of these coupling drive contact sections 93 are supported by the standing part 78-2 of a supporting section 78. The lower guide shaft 77-2 is urged upward by a spiral spring 83 to clamp an vibrator 70 between two guide shafts 77. The vibrator body 75 is applied with AC voltages having different phases to generate a vibration wave and to generate an elliptical rotary vibration at the drive contact part 76 thus moving the "the vibrator 70" and the "two guide shafts 77, the supporting section 78" relatively in the axial direction.
