PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing hydrogen at a low cost, which is low in load to environment; and to provide a system for producing hydrogen. SOLUTION: The method comprises separating a dry distilled gas, such as a coke oven gas obtained by a high temperature dry distillation system, into hydrogen and the substantially hydrogen-free dry distilled gas from which hydrogen is removed by a hydrogen separation system, and driving the high temperature dry distillation system by using the dry distilled gas from which hydrogen is removed and a biogas obtained by a methane fermentation system as an energy source for the high temperature dry distillation.
