PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical disk unit in which heat generated by a stepping motor for driving a pickup being one of heat generation sources is suppressed for realizing low power consumption. SOLUTION: This optical disk unit comprises a pickup 3 for applying a laser beam to an optical disk 1 by a laser diode, a disk motor 2 for mounting and rotating the optical disk, a stepping motor 5 for moving a pickup in a disk diameter direction, and a system controller 6 for controlling the driving current of the laser diode and the rotational speed of the disk motor, and controlling the position of the pickup by the stepping motor, wherein the stepping motor includes a temperature sensor 31 therein, and the system controller 6 sets a current supplied to the stepping motor within a predetermined range according to a detected temperature and performs control so that an internal temperature rise is suppressed based on the temperature of the detected rotational speed.
