PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for controlling the position of a machine tool allowing increase of position loop gains when a servo motor is driven and controlled by full-closed loop control, thus controlling while inhibiting machine vibration and to keep responsiveness from worsening. SOLUTION: A control circuit of the device 10 for controlling the position of a machine tool computes an integrated feedback value g on the basis of a function F (V<SB>M</SB>, P<SB>M</SB>, V<SB>m</SB>, P<SB>m</SB>) which involves four pieces of information, motor velocity V<SB>M</SB>, motor position P<SB>M</SB>, machine velocity V<SB>m</SB>and machine position P<SB>m</SB>.
