PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a staple leg bending mechanism capable of preventing a clincher from protruding toward paper to be bound from a clincher holder when both legs of a staple are bent parallelly along the rear of the paper to be bound by the clincher to prevent the contamination of the rear of the paper to be bound. SOLUTION: The staple formed into a C-shape is inserted in the paper to be bound from the surface side thereof by a driver moved along the thickness direction of the paper to be bound and a pair of the clincher 23 and 24, which are held to the clincher holders 21 and 22 in a revolvable manner so as to be opposed to the staple to hold the paper to be bound, are revolved by a clincher operating member 27 moved in cooperation with the movement of the driver not only to parallelly bend both legs of the staple along the rear of the paper to be bound after both legs of the staple pierce the paper to be bound but also to make the height dimension H1 along the moving direction of the clincher operating member of the clinchers 23 and 24 less than the height dimension H2 of the clincher holders 21 and 22.
