SOLID POLYMER ELECTROLYTE, FUEL CELL ELECTRODE, AND SOLID POLYMER FUEL CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer electrolyte suppressing elution of hydrogen fluoride and fluorine ion.

SOLUTION: A Nafion (R) membrane (dry thickness is about 50 μm) swelled by immersing in hot water for one hour is immersed in solution prepared by dissolving Fe phthalocyanine in concentrated sulfuric acid. After one hour, the Nafion (R) membrane is taken out and sufficiently washed with pure water. At that time, content of a large ring metal complex of the Nafion membranes is adjusted so as to contain about 0.1 mg per cm2. This Nafion is used as the electrolyte membrane of the solid polymer fuel cell.
