PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive assisting apparatus for reducing image distortion in the longitudinal direction of a vehicle with respect to the drive assisting apparatus, which assists the drive of the vehicle by offering peripheral circumstances of the vehicle as visual information. SOLUTION: The drive assisting apparatus includes an imaging element 1 having a length according to the width of a vehicle; a light collecting means 2 for collecting light only to a light receiving face of the imaging element 1 having the same length and width as the imaging element 1; a signal processing means 3 for processing an electric signal generated from the imaging element 1, and generating an video signal; a coordination converting means 5 for subjecting the video signal from the signal processing means 3 to coordination transformation, which contains distortion correction and vidual point transformation; and a display means 6 for displaying an image, based on the video signal transformed in coordinations by the coordination converting means 5.
