PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method in which, when a toner image is developed on a photoreceptor in a transfer step accompanying considerable image degradation, the toner dust area is not increased by transfer and by which image degradation by transfer can be prevented. SOLUTION: In the image forming method, an image is formed in such a way that, when a toner dust image area on the photoreceptor after a developing step is represented by Sd and a toner dust image area after transferring the developed toner image onto a transfer member in a transfer step is represented by St, both Sd and St satisfy expression (1), wherein Sd and St are toner dust image areas and represent mean values each calculated from 70 meshes when, in data obtained by binarizing a photograph taken with a super focal depth form measuring microscope, an image portion showing the maximum area at the center per 253.8μm×253.8μm area is eliminated, and the total of surrounding toner dust image portions is considered to be a dust area per mesh.
