PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film having the following characteristics: projections at the running surface side are hardly transferred to the magnetic surface side; since the air flow between the film and a guide roll is smooth, the film has a high-speed running stability; and the film has a high quality as the base film for magnetic tape for a magnetic recording device. SOLUTION: The thermoplastic resin film is a biaxially oriented film containing at least 50 wt% polyester. In at least one surface layer part, inert particles are aligned or domains consisting of a thermoplastic resin other than polyester are aligned, in one direction in the plane.
