PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact absorption type steering column device with better installation property of an impact energy absorption member, capable of easily enhancing installation accuracy to a vehicle body of the impact energy absorption member. SOLUTION: The impact absorption type steering column device is provided with a break away bracket 41 installed movably and removably to a front side relative to a vehicle body side bracket 31 while retaining the steering column 20; and an impact energy absorption member 71 for absorbing secondary collision energy by forward movement of the break away bracket 41 relative to the vehicle body side bracket 31. The impact energy absorption member 71 has a fixed part 71a relatively displaceably attached to the break away bracket 41; and an engagement part 71b engageable/disengageable with an engagement recessed part 31a of the vehicle body side bracket 31.
