PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relieve impulsive sound in braking the opening/closing motion of a sliding door by a braking device of simple structure and to optionally change the length of an idling distance by one kind of device. SOLUTION: This braking device for the sliding door is constituted to brake the sliding door 1 by meshing a rack 29 and a pinion 28 with each other in the opening/closing motion of the sliding door 1 to apply braking force to the pinion 28. The pinion 28 is loosely fitted to a rotating shaft 18a of a rotation braking device 16, while the rotating shaft 18a is provided with a one-way clutch 19 on the rotating shaft 18a. The one-way clutch 19 is provided with a cam plate 22 formed with a radial recessed part 21 on the outer periphery, and a pin 30 circumferentially movable in the radial recessed part 21 is protrusively provided at the side face of the pinion 28, and the pin 30 rotated integrally with the pinion 28 abuts on a circumferential end 21a of the radial recessed part 21 to brake the rotary motion of the pinion 28 through the one-way clutch 19.
