<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce necessary hardware and execute large scale arithmetic operation at high speed while ensuring the same arithmetic functions as a quantum computer. <P>SOLUTION: A semiconductor arithmetic unit comprises a plurality of arithmetic means that correspond to different logical value states and that execute arithmetic operations about the corresponding logical value states with position information indicating logical value states of a given probability and hold arithmetic operation results. The plurality of arithmetic means execute concurrent arithmetic operations about all logical value states representable in N bits (N is a natural number). Even without probability information about all the states, holding only the position information indicating the states of a given probability can ensure the execution of arithmetic operations similar to those of a quantum computer, so that necessary hardware can be significantly reduced and large scale arithmetic operation can be executed at high speed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
