PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of unevenness (moire) in image formation by scanning a plurality of light beams. SOLUTION: An image is formed by scanning m laser beams on a photoreceptor drum in the scanning direction, and by shifting the scanning band by the m laser beams in the sub-scanning direction. When forming an image in this way, the light amount of the laser beam at both ends in the scanning band by the m laser beams in the sub-scanning direction (the first beam, the second beam, the (m-1)th beam, and the mth beam) is increased or decreased more or less than the light amount of the third to (m-2)th laser beams. Thereby, an occurrence of moire caused by a difference in the period of the screen structure and that of the scanning band, i.e., line-like consistency unevenness in the boundary of scanning band, can be suppressed.
