PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a shortage by brush powder from being generated even if it is brought into a state that a large quantity of the brush powder is generated (for example, the vicinity of a wear limit of a brush) by discharging smoothly the brush powder between a holder and a commutator (between a member covering a periphery of the brush and a commutator). SOLUTION: A rotary electric machine includes a holder plate 20 having a slit 22 opened at the inner end of a brush slide contact part. Thus, since the brush powder between a holder and a commutator is discharged smoothly to a lower space from the slit 22, the deposition of the brush powder between the holder and the commutator is prevented, and a short circuit does not occur. Moreover, since the brush powder between the holder and the brush is discharged down smoothly from the slit 22, even if it reaches the vicinity of a brush wear limit, the deposition of the brush powder between the holder and the brush is prevented, and the sliding deterioration of the brush in the vicinity of the brush wear limit can be prevented.
