PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone which alleviates a burden on a user for backing up telephone directory information and reduces possibility that the directory information is lost. SOLUTION: When a user operates a key input unit 214 to newly register a telephone number list or change or delete a telephone number list stored in a telephone directory memory 203 while a telephone directory update report mail transmission setting flag 204 is set on, and an automatic transmission setting flag 205 is set on, a controller 211 automatically sends telephone directory update report mail with described update contents of telephone directory information to a mail address stored in a destination mail address area 206.
