The assembly, especially for a motor vehicle steering column, has female (4) and male (6) shafts able to slide relative to one another by means of rows of balls (36) set in the male shaft and interacting with grooves (44) in the female shaft. Each row of balls is set in a housing (14) with a separator, a bar (28) and a spring (26) compressed between the housing and bar. The spring can be made from a plastic elastic material or spring steel, and the ball separator can be made from sheet metal or fibre-reinforced plastic. |
