<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for estimating a position of a synchronous motor which can simply obtain an initial position of a rotor at stopping time and low speed rotating time of the synchronous motor irrespective of a type of the synchronous motor. <P>SOLUTION: The method for estimating the position of the synchronous motor obtains the initial position of the rotor at the stopping time or low speed rotating time of the synchronous motor, performs a coordinate transformation of voltage current characteristics representing the relation between a voltage command value superposed on the synchronous motor and current measured value, obtains a parameter matrix component about voltage current by applying a system identification theory for the coordinate transformed voltage current characteristics, and calculates the initial position of the rotor from the parameter matrix component. If a d-axis inductance L<SB>d-</SB>when the d-axis current i<SB>d</SB>is negative is larger than d-axis inductance L<SB>d+</SB>when the d-axis current i<SB>d</SB>is positive, a pole of the rotor is determined as N-pole, while when the d-axis inductance L<SB>d-</SB>is smaller, the pole of the rotor is determined as S-pole. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
