PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic screening method and an apparatus for multiplying cells, in a culture solution dispensed to a multi-well plate. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus for automatically screening monoclonal antibodies include a process (1) of suspending fused cells prepared by a cell fusing device in the culture solution and seeding them in each well of the multi-well plate; a process (2) of holding the seeded fused cells, under a condition such as to form colonies of the cells; a process (3) of detecting the colonies of the fused cells formed in each well by a compound-eye image analysis; a process (4) of making a culture solution supernatant absorbed and recovered from the wells; a process (5) of selecting wells, in which growth is satisfactory; and a process (6) of making the fused cells and the culture solution recover from the selected wells, them transplant to a larger multi-well plate, and to make them multiply.
