PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a recording head capable of generating a voltage optimum for a characteristic of the recording head attached to a recorder without precisely adjusting an output voltage of a power source for outputting a driving voltage of the recording head. SOLUTION: A reference voltage source for setting the output voltage of the head driving power source is provided in the recording head and a head driving power source circuit built in the recorder compares a divided voltage value of the output voltage of the power source circuit with a divided voltage value of the reference voltage to be controlled so as to cancel an error. The recording head is equipped with a nonvolatile memory. Setting data for supplying driving energy optimizing the ejection characteristic of the recording head is obtained by using a testing device having a structure similar to that of the head driving power source circuit in the last testing in the manufacturing process to be stored in the nonvolatile memory. When the recording head is attached to the recorder, the setting data is read from the memory and a driving pulse to be used in the actual recording is determined. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
