The vertical drill assembly, for drilling a borehole (1) in the ground, has a drill head (2) suspended from a crane which is structured to remove spoil from the bottom (3) of the borehole. A support system (4) applies a spreading force, by moving spreader wall sections (12) radially against the borehole wall. A drive (5) powers the drill head, and an advance mechanism (6) pushes the drill head forward (V) in relation to the support.
