The installation comprises a rudder blade (1) and a rudder stock (5) directly picking both lateral force and torque. The rudder stock is held by shank bearings: two radial bearings (8) and one thrust bearing (9). A coupling (7) is provided for connecting the rudder stock (5) with a helm or top rail, especially directly with the rudder machine. The coupling (7), upper radial bearing (8) and thrust bearing (9) form an integrated component (7,8,9).
