PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with a development system which prevents, in a simple, inexpensive manner, toner from sticking to the side faces of a development roller or entering the development roller and also prevents soiling of images and soiling of the interior of the image forming apparatus, which are caused by scatter of toner or leak of toner. SOLUTION: The width of the development roller is shorter than the width of a magnetic brush. Spaces are defined between the internal face of the development roller and its rotating shaft and in at least both ends of the development roller in its axial direction. Each support which is located on the side of the internal circumferential face of the development roller and fixes the development roller to the rotating shaft in position is located further back than both the ends of the development roller.
