PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission line which includes an optical fiber capable of multi-mode operation, and is easy to input light so that it propagates in a base mode through this optical fiber. SOLUTION: The optical transmission line 1 comprises a 1st optical fiber 10 and a 2nd optical fiber 20, which are fusion-spliced at a connecting part 40. At a predetermined wavelength, the optical fiber 10 operates in a single mode, and the optical fiber 20 has a base mode and higher order modes, and is capable of multi-mode operation.
