PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal processing method for highly reliably judging whether or not an image signal adopts a form obtained by generating two consecutive fields from a single common frame. SOLUTION: Difference generating sections 31, 32 detect a difference PR_D between each field of a video signal S20 and its one-preceding field and a difference PO_D between each field of the video signal S20 and its one-succeeding field. Then a judgment data generating section 33 judges whether or not a video signal of a judgment object adopts the 2-2 sequence form on the basis of a difference between the differences PR_D, PO_D.
