PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electric scissors which minimize obstacles in the space surrounding the blades with a pair of blades opened. SOLUTION: The electric scissors 1 are constituted of a lower blade 3 fixed on the tip of a body case 13, an upper blade 2 mounted on the lower blade 3 being turnable on the shaft 4, a rod 8 which is engaged with a working part 32 of the upper blade 2 through a link 5 to make the upper blade 2 move opened or closed freely and a control means which contains a motor 15 or the like and controls the advancement and retraction of the rod. The upper blade 2 is so formed as to make the working part 32 extend backward from the shaft 4 with the blade part 31 opened and can be moved in the direction of closing the blade part 31 with the advancing of the rod 8. Thus, with the blade part 31 opened, this keeps the working part 32 from protruding ahead of the shaft 4 to eliminate the obstacles in the operation even when a site to be cut of an object to be cut is complicated, thereby achieving a higher handleability.
