PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning means which effectively hinders image failure ("image flow" phenomenon) by removing foreign matters such as discharge products and addition agents on an image carrier by a simple structure. SOLUTION: The cleaning means has the image carrier, a cleaning blade, and a cleaning container. A toner leak prevention member provided so as to prevent a leak of stored residual developer is disposed in the opening of the cleaning container and the upstream of the cleaning blade in the rotating direction of the image carrier. The toner leak prevention member comes into contact with the image carrier in the counter-direction of the rotating direction of the image carrier. If an angle between the cleaning blade and a tangent perpendicular to a straight line connecting the imaginary center of the image carrier and the position of the contact of the blade with the imaginary circumference of the image carrier is a set angleη, the relation expressed by 15°<η<35°is established. If an angle between a horizontal plane when the cleaning blade is attached to the main body of an apparatus and the cleaning blade in the position where it is in the contact with the imaginary circumference of the image carrier isθ, the angle satisfies the relation expressed by 12°<θ<22°.
