PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sizing agent composition for paper capable of improving high-speed printability, surface paper strength and sizing degree while suppressing paper rewetting adhesion. SOLUTION: The sizing agent composition for paper comprises (A) a carboxy-containing polyvinyl alcohol and (B) a polyamide epoxy resin. Preferably, this sizing agent composition is obtained by compounding 100 pts.wt. of the component A with 0.1-10 pts.wt. of the component B and 5-100 pts.wt. of (C) a polyvinyl alcohol, either one of the following: an acetoacetate group-containing polyvinyl alcohol, a diacetone acrylamide group-containing polyvinyl alcohol and a polyvinyl alcohol containing aldehyde groups on the side chain.
