PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for gasifying and an apparatus for gasification with high efficiency in which the production cost and the amount of discharged CO<SB>2</SB>are ultralow. SOLUTION: The method for gasifying biomass comprises a step of pyrolyzing the biomass into at least a solid component and a gas component and a step of reacting the gas component produced by the pyrolysis with oxygen and/or steam in the presence of a catalyst and producing a synthesis gas.
