An assembly permitting a high intensity load to be coupled to a low strength structure comprises a connector from which a bundle of unidirectional fibres extend in a freely spreadable manner, said fibres being cemented to said connector. The fibres protruding from the connector are subsequently bonded to a large area of said low strength structure. In Fig. 2B the connector 11 has tapered bores through which 'glass fibres 15 extend, these fibres being wrapped around a pin 35 at one end of the connector and being splayed apart by a cone or wedge 36 at the other end. The bore may be knurled or ridged. In Fig. 3 the fibres 15 pass around a thimble 18 and are externally protected by a housing 19 terminating at its ends in a clasp 20 that binds the fibres together. The thimble 18 includes a web 22 formed with a bearing 21. In Fig. 12 the fibres pass through an eye 39 in the connector. The eye 39 is filled with resin when the glass fibres are impregnated, The fibres may be secured to the connector by epoxy resins, unsaturated polyesters, alkyds, amino resins and phenolics. The fibres 15 may be of glass, steel, wire, nylon or other high tensile strength plastic filaments. |
