Fork lift truck comprises a unit (10) for locking palettes consisting of a palette stop element (24) having a lifting tool for changing the position of the stop element whilst a palette received by the fork (7) is pressed against it, a locking rod (11) pre-tensioned so that it presses in a direction in which the palette is received on the fork, and a gearing mechanism (25). An independent claim is also included for a unit for locking palettes. Preferred Features: The gearing mechanism has a holding device for the locking rod to hold the rod in a position in which the rod is removed from the palette when the palette no longer presses against the stop element. The locking rod is pre-tensioned underneath using a weight or spring.
