<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network system wherein a packet transfer apparatus copies required packets only in the case of transferring broadcast packets and multicast packets. <P>SOLUTION: When receiving the broadcast packet, the packet transfer apparatus sequentially acquires virtual transmission paths from a virtual transmission path storage section 106 for storing all of a plurality of virtual transmission paths in a network on which the packet transfer apparatus is deposited. The packet transfer apparatus partially searches a terminal position storage section 107 on the basis of a combination between each output path of the acquired transmission path and a network group of the broadcast packet discriminated by a group discrimination section 105 by each output path of the acquired transmission path, the terminal position storage section 107 being capable of registering the network group discriminated by the group discrimination section 105, the virtual transmission path of the received packet and a sender address of the received packet as a set. Only when the terminal position storage section 107 registers the combination, the packet transfer apparatus copies the broadcast packet and transmits the packet to the output path of the transmission path used for the partial searching.
