PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of particularly enhancing read image quality by a second read means in the image reading apparatus being a double-side image reading apparatus of a sheet-through type provided with first and second read means. SOLUTION: In the image reading apparatus for sequentially reading a carried double-side original by providing the first and second read means along an original carrying path 7 of an automatic draft feeder 1, the first read means includes a mobile optical system unit 13 capable of reading a standstill original and configured to be at a standstill at a prescribed position on the original carrying path 7 in the case of reading the original fed from the automatic draft feeder, while the second read means comprises a fixed optical system unit 16 and a platen roller 17 in slide-rolling contact with a read face of the unit 16, and the fixed optical system unit 16 and the platen roller 17 are fitted to a side frame 21 of the automatic draft feeder.
