PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel and simple method for regulating angular relation between a crankshaft and a camshaft in a VCT control system. SOLUTION: The VCT control system is provided with a phaser for regulating angular relation between the crank angle of the crankshaft and a cam angle of the camshaft. The system is further provided with a controller provided to determine the angular relation based on teeth at uniform interval disposed along the circumference of at least one tooth wheel connected to either of the crankshaft and the camshaft. This method for regulating angular relation in the system is provided with a procedure to provide the tooth wheel having a tooth arrangement that is physically asymmetric along the circumference of the wheel, and a procedure of regulating the physically asymmetric tooth arrangement into a symmetric tooth arrangement for further procedure by the controller.
