To provide a recording apparatus capable of reducing the operations to be executed by a user in case of employing a thick recording sheet for recording operation, thereby improving the operability of the recording apparatus. On the recording apparatus, mountable is a thick sheet guide capable of assuming a first state for guiding a recording sheet in case of supply of the recording sheet to a recording portion from a downstream side in a normal conveying direction, and a second state retracted from a conveying path in case of conveying of the recording sheet in the normal direction. In the recording apparatus, a pinch roller is separated from a sheet conveying roller when a sensor (not shown) detects that the thick sheet guide is shifted from the second state to the first state.
