PURPOSE: An error generating method for an adaptive equalizer is provided to enable a decisive feedback equalizer to receive a scaled output of a grating decoder and to generate an error signal by subtracting an output of the decisive feedback equalizer from an input of the grating decoder. CONSTITUTION: A raw error signal is obtained by subtracting a delayed version of an input to a grating decoder(350) from a scaled version which is mapped with an output(229) of the grating decoder(350) from an adder. The raw error signal is multiplied in a step size. The multiplied result is multiplied to the grating decoder(350) as the same input supplied to the adder to generate a compensated error signal. The multiplied result is transmitted to accumulators(820) to update equalizer taps.
