<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit lateral offset among short preforms in an optical fiber preform wherein the short preforms of the same outer diameter are axially arranged in series. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical fiber preform 10, the disk-shaped or columnar, short preforms 11 of the same outer diameter are axially arranged in series.
