METHOD FOR PROCESSING DIGITAL MAP DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for realizing simple and high-speed determination of routes. SOLUTION: The method for processing digital map data for route determination includes (a) a step of dividing a region into a plurality of zones and (b) a step of automatically determining, for each zone, at least one cost value for at least one passing direction of the zone on the basis of the digital map data of the zone and a predetermined cost criterion. Each cost value is decided according to a passing distance and/or passing time. Preferably, the cost value takes the predetermined portion of the adjacent zone into consideration.
