PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide gasoline effective for suppressing the generation of PM (particulate matter) and soot in exhaust gas from the aspect of fuel compared with conventional gasoline, increasing the engine output and improving the drivability for improving the environment and fuel cost. SOLUTION: The gasoline contains 4-14 vol.% ethyl t-butyl ether, has a Reid vapor pressure of <65 kPa, a≤7C hydrocarbon content of≥42 vol.% and≤90 vol.% (excluding aromatic hydrocarbon) and a 4C hydrocarbon content of≤4 vol.%, and satisfies the formula (1): 0.6×(C5 naphthene content)+0.8×(C6 naphthene content)+(aromatic content)-7×ETBE≤15. In the formula, C5 naphthene content is the content (vol.%) of a naphthene hydrocarbon having a carbon number of 5, the C6 naphthene content is the content (vol.%) of a naphthene hydrocarbon having a carbon number of 6, the aromatic content is the content (vol.%) of aromatic hydrocarbons and ETBE is the content (vol.%) of ethyl t-butyl ether.
