<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image communication system, an image transmission device, and an image reception device capable of displaying the progress of the image data communication in a easily understandable way when the image data is transferred via a network. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image communication system carries out transmission/ reception of image data between a digital camera (an image transmission device) and a personal computer (an image reception device). The digital camera on the transmission side displays an image based on the image data on a liquid crystal monitor during the transmission thereof, and partially changes the displaying state in accordance with the degree of completion of the transmission. The personal computer on the reception side displays an image based on the image data on a display thereof during the reception of the image data, and partially changes the displaying state in accordance with the degree of completion of the reception. The displaying state of each image is partially changed with respect to the presence or absence of the image display, the level of contrast, and the color of the display.
